Support Workers
Scout Enterprises is contracted by DWP's 'Access to Work' team to provide Support Workers to clients who have a disability and need help to undertake a full and active role in the workplace. The provision of a Support Worker enables them to remain in work and ensures they can maintain their independence and financial self-sufficiency.The types of cover we provide are wide and varied and include: Travel Buddy's; Readers; Administrators; Job Aids; Drivers and Job Coaches, any of which may be necessary to enable our clients to effectively undertake the tasks for which they have been employed.
The 'Access to Work' team decide upon the number of hours of support that a client needs each week. In return for our monthly fee, we undertake to recruit, maintain regular contact, monitor the progress and effectiveness of our Support Workers and to provide cover in cases of sickness or annual leave.
We currently have 98 contracts with 'Access to Work' and we also have around 20 private clients who contract with us directly to supply Personal Work Assistants (PWA's) for them. For this, we charge an hourly rate and we are paid on a monthly invoice. The type and standard of service we provide for our private clients is very similar in most respects to that which we provide for our 'Access to Work' contracts.
Nearly all of our work is in the London area, although a few are further afield. We have three Co-ordinators who work from home. Their role is to co-ordinate the activities of their team, arrange cover where necessary, undertake monitoring visits and in the case of new clients, make all necessary arrangements including the recruitment of the Support Worker.
We advertise vacancies in Jobcentres and in the free press so that people locally apply. As a result, we have an excellent record of being able to swiftly identify suitable and appropriate Support Workers/PWA's and so ensure that our clients are not prevented from undertaking the full range of workplace activities because of their disability.
